Urban Nests.

Category: Uncategorized

One of my favorite things about art is the way that designers, artists and ‘creatives’ see the world. Where some people see only scaffolding, others, like Luzinterruptus, see an opportunity.

“Walking through one of the most commercial areas of Madrid, Calle Preciados, our attention was drawn to these yellow balls which are put in place to avoid accidents with scaffolding joints.

There were so many of them installed that the gigantic, threatening metal tube structure had acquired, thanks to these striking points of color, a much more pleasing aspect and therefore we had the urge to stay and investigate the strange objects that people walking by were introducing into the holes.

And one warm night in July we decided to make them more visible so that people would notice, like us, what these insignificant, common objects brought to the aspect of a street under construction.

For our installation Urban Nests, we only had to populate the balls with 130 colored birds, that we left looking into the street from their makeshift homes in the scaffolding and of course light them, to achieve a warm, cozy atmosphere throughout the scaffolded area, inviting one to remain and contemplate such an unusual habitat.”

This is a really, really Beautiful project. Please go look at the ten stunning photographs Here.

Meet Becky

Category: Uncategorized

Steam me up, kid has to be one of the funniest blogs on the net. And so faithful readers I introduce you to its creater Becky:

“Oh, you don’t want to hear about me. Shucks. Ok fine.

I have an enormous forehead.

I am currently obsessed with Battlestar Galactica, and now that I’ve finished the entire series, I feel a great sense of remorse because I miss all my friends from the Galactica, especially Starbuck.

In terms of maturity, I’m lagging about ten years behind. It’s kind of creepy.

I love driving and listening to music and daydreaming.

I don’t care about any bullshit crap. Clothes, cars, reality tv, gossip, use of poor spelling and grammar, whether my ass crack shows, being too fat, being too skinny, who’s screwing whom, etc. If it won’t matter in a hundred years, it doesn’t matter to me today and I’m just not interested.

HELL YEAH on that last one! *airpunch* NOT INTERESTED IN UNIMPORTANT CRAP!! Woo. Yeah. Okay. Now, what was I just doing? Oh yeah. *publishes post about quifs*

(I do very much care about not-bullshit crap though.)

I have always had an over-the-top sentimental nostalgia for the 80’s. Currently, I have goopy feelings for Phil Collins, particularly “Susudio” and “Invisible Touch”.

I have 4 dogs. One of them is made of ashes now, but I love her just the same.

I spend most of my waking time in fantasy. I think maybe I watched too much tv when I was little.

When I’m driving my dogs in the car to our walk spot, I make up and sing songs for them about friendship and teamwork and stickin’ together.

I don’t believe in holding in farts. I’m on a one woman crusade to eliminate the fart stigma. I almost wrote “fart stigmata” just then, which is the best thing I’ve ever heard of.

I’ve never eaten bacon, so I don’t know what everyone’s talking about all the time. Bacon is very “in” right now. Bacon is the new zombies.

I love animals, but I’m not very fond of people. Not you though. You can stay.

I can fold my tongue into 3 parts, like a clover.

I don’t get embarrassed very easily.

I suspect I have some degree of Aspbergers.

I don’t say “Dude.”

This is boring.”

And there you have it. Now go read the damn blog.

Star Wars Con

Category: Uncategorized

I’m sure you all know that last weekend was the weekend of the Star Wars Celebration out in Orlando…What… you mean you didn’t? For Shame!

Luckily I did! And whilst I was unable to attend in person I did vicariously through all the images I found on twitter, digg and various blogs. So here you have my pick of the best costumes, dioramas and exhibits. Let out your inner Jedi, and may the force go with us…

We’ll start with a good one:

Look! It’s Boobie Fett.

The Family that Cons together, stays together. But how pretty is her dress?!

That thing must have taken so long to make!

Awesome.

Ok, here I’m going to mirror the photographers words,

I wish I had a time-machine so I could go back and be as awesome as this 12year old!

Or even as awesome as this little guy!

Here’s one of him with his head on:

Oh my nieces had better be worried…

A really Great photo opportunity!

Last minute Con costume?

Zombies and Stormtroopers, don’t you love it when two of

your favorite things come together?

There’s always one…Oh well, at least he’s not a redshirt.

Look at the detail, look at it!

And now I’m going to end this on my favorite image of all. There are no words for how freaking cool this is!

Later!

Business Cards

Category: Uncategorized

The brief was very simple; Design a business card for emerging artist Terri Saunders using images of her work. This is what I came up with:

What do you think?

A few moments ago, whilst trawling the intraweb I came across the cutest think I’ve seen for hours, no not hours, days.  At my loud ‘Awww’ the guys glanced over to see what I was looking at, before quickly telling me that I’m an idiot and going back to their work.

Am I an idiot? That’s for you to decide.

Laurens list of Awesome things – The Fitzrovia radio Hour.

Category: Uncategorized

Now I love theater, I mean really Love the theater (and cabaret and live music and any thing else to do with a stage – I’ve even been on the stage a few times…but that’s another blog post) I know all the words to all the songs from The Phantom of the Opera and I’ve even seen The Merry Wives of Windsor in The Globe.

But there is nothing in this world quite like the Fitzrovia Radio hour.

The Fitzrovia radio hour has a very simple premise: they perform a 1940’s style radio drama, their acting is straight up  but find comedy in the performance of sound effects (did you know that there are over seven different uses for a cabbage?)

“Sound barrier being broken. Space-time continuum about to be torn – indicated by poised wobble board.”

They’re at this moment at the Fringe Festival, and are getting the most amazing reviews. Here’s one by a far better writer that myself:

There are some shows that come to the Fringe that are not only inspired but also ingenious in their creativity, delivery, and scope. I can say this with total confidence and no fear or contradiction that The Fitzrovia Radio Hour is the BEST show at this years Fringe festival, not one of the best, simply the best show you are likely to see. The cast, also writers of the play, bring to life the radio voices of the day with a frightening realness. The audience is treated much like the radio audience of the day (there is a wonderful bit at the start where the placards to cue the audience) and after the first 10 minutes you are gripped, sitting on the edge of your seat as the dramas, comedy, and commercials for Roses Carbolic Soap float by.

The Fitzrovia radio hour will be playing next 10 September at 19:30 – 18 September at 23:30 at Wilton’s Music Hall & The Rose Theater Kingston. I hope to see you there!
